Abstract:
Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between beta defensin gene single nucleotide polymorphism and chronic tonsillitis.Study Design: Prospective, non-randomized, controlled clinical studySetting: Tertiary referral center.Subjects and Methods: The study group included 86 patients with chronic tonsillitis and 80 controls without history of chronic tonsillitis. Genotypes were identified by restriction fragment length polymorphism analyses after polymerase chain reaction. Results: The -20G/A, -44C/G ve -52G/A single nucleotid polymorphisms were statistically not different between chronic tonsillitis patients and controls (p>0,05). In consistent with this result, comparison of allele frequencies for all those three single nucleotide polymorphisms were not significantly different (p>0,05).Conclusion: In this study, DEFB1 gene -20G/A, -44C/G ve -52G/A single nucleotid polymorphisms were not associated with chronic tonsillitis. The studies including different polymorphism zones and large case series should be conducted. Keywords: DEFB1 gene, chronic tonsillitis, genotype, polymorphism
